7-2-2008 PVA - NVA anyone?

Finally another update!

Time has really been flying by lately. We have had such an interesting pattern here across the NE United States. Our weather has been influenced by a deep trof for weeks. 500mb temperatures have been chilly since my last posting in May! (June temps actually averaged above normal for most Climo stations in Connecticut!)

I had to post an awesome example of PVA vs NVA. I was taught in Meteorology school back in The United States Marine Corps to make vorticity your friend. Today was a great example of how strong 500mb uvv's can combine with moisture and surface heating to make some big CBs that eventually led to severe thunderstorms.

Here is the modeled vort max for 18 z:

Here is a visible image shortly after the above analysis. Notice the convective clouds with TRW and hail to the east in the PVA area.

West of the axis, skies are sunny to mostly sunny associated with downward motion and NVA. Cool stuff! -Gil

well, now the fat is in the fire...
i'll be monkeying around with this blogg sight...looks like my one course in meteorlogy will be taxed 20 some odd years later...

now, with yesterdays weather, 19 july, marching in Deep River in full uniform, bear skin Shako, and seemingly "equatoral African" conditions, (the only thing missing was Malaria, and 50 foot pythons)

....where on earth is it more uncomfortable, heat, humidity, heat index, etc...???

Qatar???

gil, i'll be monkeying around with your sight the next few days...this will tax my one meteorology course in college...

yesterday i marched, full Parade Dress, bearskin shako and all, in conditions that of 'equatorial africa', absent the malaria and 50 foot pythons... it must of been about 94 degrees, 215% humidity, not to mention the heat radiating up from the street...(on top of all that i was ranking Officer and had to lead the unit...that's another chapter)

needless to say it was quite uncomfortable, absent the 'eye candy' along the parade route...

where in the world is it more un comfortable??? heat, humidity, heat index??? qatar??? the Congo, the amazon basin???
